“Friesland” is a primetime crime-series on ZDF that debuted in 2014.

Originally intended as a one-off TV movie it was recommissioned as a Saturday night series.

Every episode takes place in the iconic East Frisean surroundings around the coastal town of Leer (East Frisia) and focusses on village police-detective Henk Cassens (Maxim Mehmet) and his ambitious colleague Süher Özlügül (Sophie Dal). The two partners could not be more different. Nevertheless, they stick together - especially when it comes to their choleric boss Brockhorst (Felix Vörtler). And if the official positions are too slow, they get backing from unconventional city pharmacist Ms. Scherzinger (Theresa Underberg) and the undertaker Mr. Habedank (Holger Stockhaus).

Friesland has become a both young and fresh and very successful addition the ZDF’s Saturday night crime-brands drawing in more than six million viewers on average.
