An emotional documentary spanning 25 years covering the band’s history, friendship and comebacks
From a casting experiment to a pop phenomenon, from a meteoric rise to
personal setbacks and new beginnings: the three-part ARD documentary
‘NO ANGELS – DAS SIND WIR’, follows Nadja Benaissa, Lucy Diakovska, Sandy Mölling and Jessica Wahls on their journey towards their 25th band anniversary. In doing so, it offers an intimate look at four women who found each other, lost each other and found each other again – who celebrated successes together, weathered crises and, in the process, almost lost themselves.
What began as a TV experiment became an unprecedented
success story in 2000: Nadja, Lucy, Sandy, Jess and Vanessa were turned into idols by the talent show ‘Popstars’. Millions of records sold, number-one hits, sold-out concerts – their rise to fame is overwhelming – and it comes at a price. How did the young singers cope with sudden fame? What decisions would they
make differently today? And which experiences and hurts continue to have an
impact to this day?
Amidst rehearsals, memories and very personal conversations, the
current band members look back in “NO ANGELS – DAS SIND WIR” on 25 eventful years and their special friendship – on the highs and lows they’ve shared, coping with pressure, mental health crises and their quest for self-determination.
Archive footage, private insights and memories from companions such as Simone Angel (former ‘Popstars’ judge), Detlef D! Soost (former ‘Popstars’ judge
and choreographer) and Alex Gernandt (former editor-in-chief of BRAVO) complement the personal perspectives of the four band members and paint a multifaceted picture of their shared history.
Honest, intimate and full of surprising insights.
